October's New Moon in Libra: Weighing the Heart

Welcoming the Magic of the New Moon in Libra this Friday, October 16th, 2020 at 3:30pm EDT.

Tis the season of change! As the lively colors of fall slowly fade and drift away, we journey with the Earth in preparation for deep release, letting go of the old, composting what we can, and surrendering to the ever changing processes that keeps the precious Balance of Life in Harmony with Divine Alignment.

New Moons are the perfect time to set or reset intentions, re-write old stories anew, and prepare for novel beginnings. Libra is a Righteous Sign symbolized by the Scales of Justice, weighing in on matters of the Heart, Truth, Equality and Divine Law.

With All Hallows' Eve and Day of the Dead just weeks away, this New Moon in Libra is all about taking the time to Honor the Spirit within all things and Embrace the Transformation that Death brings.

This New Moon in Libra asks us to be the judge of our own Hearts in Relationship to the world at large. We are invited to Balance the Scales of Equality, Order, Truth and Wisdom and release anything that holds us back from the Harmony that True Love brings. Now is the time to carefully consider the Truth within our own Hearts and how we show up in Right Relationship to Self, Other, Values, Pleasure, Beauty, Joy and the Sacred Balance of Life.

As an Air Sign, Libra energy connects us to the subtle aspects of Creation. This is the realm of Flight and Feather represented by the Winged ones and the subtle energy of thought and ideas that precede form. The Element of Air represents the vital Breath of Life, New Beginnings, Flight, Freedom, Spirit, Expansion and the Gifts of the Mind such as wisdom, knowledge, intellect, communication, information, analysis and synthesis.

Although unseen, we know the vital importance of Air and it's effects in relationship to all the other Elements. Air connects us to the Heart and influences how Light-Hearted we are in relationship to ourselves and the world around us. In Life and in Death, it is the Heart that must be weighed, measured and balanced on the Scales of Divine Love, Truth and Justice.

Looking back in time to the Ancestors of Old, we find that Law and Order, along with Truth and Justice, were issues of the Heart and Soul. In Ancient Egypt, Goddess Ma'at, or Maat, represents the embodiment and personification of Cosmic Order, Truth, Justice, Balance, Harmony, and Divine Law.

The winged Goddess Ma'at holds the Wisdom of the Stars and keeps the balance of the Seasons and Cycles. Ma'at represents the moral principles and code of ethics that honor truth and equality in relationship to self and other. Ma'at maintains Harmony within the Heart and bonds between All Relations, including Family, Friends, Community, Nation, Environment and God.

Ancient Egyptians considered Death a Right of Passage and life was lived in preparation for the Afterlife. In the Egyptian Underworld, Hearts of the deceased were weighed against the “Feather of Ma'at.” Hearts that out-weighed Ma'at's Feather were eaten by the Demon Goddess Ammit and condemned to remain in the Underworld. Hearts that were equal in measure, or lighter than Ma'at's Feather, proved to lead a life of virtue and dignity, and the Soul of the deceased was allowed passage to continue their journey toward Heavenly Paradise.

This is not just a reminder of Ancient Myth and Legend, however. This is about the Love that remains when all is said and done.

Libra is ruled by the planet Venus, named after the Roman Goddess of Love, Beauty and Money. Venus shines as one of the brightest Celestial bodies in the Night Sky, second to the Moon. Venus has been revered throughout the ages for her luminous brilliance and Guiding Light as both the Morning Star of the East and the Evening Star of the West.

Venus's influence goes beyond love and money and gets straight to the heart of our innermost sentiments, what we value in life, what gives us pleasure and satisfaction, what makes us feel beautiful, happy, and fulfilled. Venus shows up in all forms of art and entertainment, in our relationship to comfort and leisure, as well as how we indulge our senses and beautify ourselves and our environment.

Venus rules our attachments to others and the nature of romance, along with what we find attractive and our own attractiveness. The energy of this feminine planet blesses us with love, beauty, grace, charm, joy, and gives us our personal tastes and artistic inclinations. The shadow side of Venus energy can be seen as over-indulgence, self-centeredness, being vain, greedy, selfish, superficial, or overly attached to appearances, driven by egoic desires.

This New Moon in Libra is the perfect time to Clear the Air and clarify our boundaries based on the values we hold most dear. Libra reminds us that everything is in relationship and “no person is an island.” Although it's important that we all “learn to get along,” we must steer clear of being a “people pleaser” at the risk of sacrificing our own integrity, truth and wisdom to gain the approval or admiration of others.

As we journey forward with this New Moon in Libra to guide us, may we each remember our role in maintaining the health and balance of the whole. As we celebrate the many lives that have come before us, paving the way for us to be here now, may our Spirits Unite in gratitude for the Blessings of All Life's Kin.

In Life and in Death, may we continue to Honor the Sanctity of our Heart and Gift of the Holy Breath. There is Power in unseen forces, have faith that it is so. Trust in Spirit to guide you, for only Divine Love, Light, and Law can Free the Soul.
